Hi there, so I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Adam McCurdy, I’ve been making games for over 15 years. I have a bunch of experience with both Unity and Unreal from mobile games to VR experience for fortune 100 companies and government sectors.

For a long time I’ve been very passionate about MMORPGs. I’ve also spent an extensive amount of my time with backend tooling and multiplayer architecture. I feel like I’m in a privileged and unique position to start developing a <gasp> MMORPG.

I’m interested in creating an action MMORPG called EverSiege. It’s a high fantasy MMORPG that should capture the fun found in older mmos like Dark Age of Camelot and Guild wars, but also allowing people to opt out of pure combat roles. I’m really interested in simulating keep and castle building, and things like resource gathering, farming, and food, not just outright combat. Don’t get me wrong, the combat should be pretty spectacular. Third person combat with weapons, spells, ranged weapons, and siege equipment! I’ve made a few private prototypes of this game so I’m fairly sure of the direction of the game and how to implement most systems found within.

Some things I find concerning with most Kickstarted MMOs or other indie MMO projects is the lack of transparency on social media and lack of input taken from the user base. I’m hoping to change that by writing this blog and taking comments and perhaps having a forum and discord.

Another concern is there seems to be a large population of outspoken people on social media that have a disgust for purchased assets from asset stores. I am one engineer / leader. I personally have a lack of talent when it comes to the art side of things. I have colleagues that are great 3d artists and will hire them on if funding happens, but we’ll cross that bridge when it happens. For now my stance is to buy assets and use them to gain traction. With the transparency and understanding that we will be replacing those assets when possible, where needed. Where needed essentially means, do we need to replace a wooden barrel with our own bespoke wooden barrel? Probably not. Unless it’s a hero barrel, then who knows. Anyway, assets are a case to case bases, and I’m going to err on the side of being lean and moving fast. So enjoy those purchased assets for the time being.

All this being said, I want to say welcome to the world of EverSiege and we appreciate your support and interest!
